The Safeguarding Page

Safeguarding

‘Safeguarding is the foundation of our school.’ Tiya – Chair of School Council.

Our school council are tenacious leaders of Safeguarding in our school. They work hard to improve our school through targeted work on our pupil school improvement plan and work alongside the Safeguarding leader and Deputy (Mrs Hall and Mrs Preston) to ensure their peers know how to be safe at home and school. See our poster below.

Through half termly planning meetings with Mrs Preston the school council provide a worship each half term to review our safeguarding policies. They do this in practical everyday terms ensuring all of our pupils are continuously reminded how to be safe and what they can do if they are worried.

‘We want to make our children feel safe and comfortable.’ Harrison – School Council.

Our teaching includes information on stranger, danger; NSPCC(we all love the Pants song); Health and Safety; What to do if you’re feeling worried; Visitors in school; along with many other topics. Look on twitter to find photographs of our pupil led Safeguarding worships.

Our digital leaders have a responsibility for keeping us safe online. Working with Miss Groom, our ICT leader, children run termly updates for all of our pupils explaining how to keep safe online. They also organise an e-safety day and provide updates for parents. In each of our classrooms our digital leaders can be found on posters above the computers. They are always on hand to help with ICT each day.

Our anti-bullying ambassadors believe firmly in ‘prevention rather than cure’. Working with Miss Nixon our young leaders are active on the playground each day supporting everyone to live out our core values of ‘love, trust and friendship’. In addition they provide information for parents about the schools work on anti-bullying and organise an exciting week each year. Look on twitter for information about their work.

Operation Encompass

Our school has been given the opportunity to take part in a new project that will run in partnership with Humberside Police and the Early Help and Safeguarding Hub (EHaSH). The project has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of school but which might have an impact on a child attending school the following day.

Following the report of an incident of domestic abuse, by 9.00am on the next school day the school’s Key Adult will be informed that the child or young person has been involved in a domestic incident. This knowledge, given to schools through Operation Encompass, allows the provision of immediate early intervention through silent or overt support. The purpose and procedures in Operation Encompass have been shared with all parents and governors, are detailed as part of the school’s Safeguarding Policy and published on our school website.

A nominated member of school staff, known as a Key Adult, will be trained to liaise with the police. Our Key Adults are the Headteacher, Mrs S Hall and Deputy Safeguarding Leader, Mrs Preston. Our key adults will be able to use information that has been shared with them in confidence, to ensure that the school is able to support children and their families.
